Récollets convent

description

The Récollets convent, a little architectural gem, was built from 1619.

The chapel is worth a visit, since it serves as a setting for several paintings by Brother Luc, a 17th century monk and painter, a pupil of Poussin and Simon Vouet.

They are luminous works, full of color and warmth, which give the episodes of Sacred History and the life of Saint Francis of Assisi an astonishing intensity and humanity.

Brother Luc traveled a lot, and his paintings, today, can be found as far away as Canada, in churches, chapels and museums.

He is now considered one of the major painters of his time.
